Willow (Salix nigra) is a versatile medium to hard wood known for its unique colors and features, including heartwood that ranges from reddish to greyish-brown, sometimes with darker streaks. The sapwood varies from white to tan and may blend subtly with the heartwood. Characterized by an interlocked or irregular grain and a medium to fine texture, Willow is harder and denser than Engelmann Spruce, making it suitable for a variety of instruments.
